Tell us about your Amazing Goddess Self?

First off, thank you for having me! My name is Michelle, and I’m a 22 year old rainbow haired writer & creative strategist living in Austin, TX, with my wonderful husband and our two kitties.

What do you do?

As a writer, I work one on one with clients to create content and copy that perfectly suits their need. My favourite sorts of clients are creative businesses and business-owners. I also write at my own blog, Wicked Whimsy, about a variety of topics that fall under living an aligned life (including but not limited to: creativity, productivity/organization, personal style & aesthetics, and more general personal development). I also just launched my first product, Take Back Your Creativity,  (see link down the right side) which is an e-course for time-crunched creative people looking to regain their creative practice and reintegrate it into their lives.

What are you passionate about?

So many things! I’m passionate about writing, and, as Elizabeth Potts-Weinstein puts it, living my truth. I’m passionate about helping other people regain clarity, making people think, and helping people take action to better themselves & their life. I’m passionate about creativity, style & aesthetics, and organization (which ties back into aesthetics for me – I love pretty organizational tools, like printed notebooks or file folders!).

What empowers you?

One place where I often get stuck is that I can be a bit of a perfectionist, which is a total trap, because it keeps you thrashing (which is a phrase I borrowed from Seth Godin – basically, it keeps you reworking a project over and over, never feeling like it’s complete). I had an epiphany thanks to the lovely Sandi of Deva Coach, which is that instead of aiming for perfection we can (and should) aim for excellence. This is a very empowering mind-shift for me, because the thing about perfection is that it’s a goal that can never be reached, whereas with something like excellence, it is attainable with hard work.

How do you keep yourself empowered?

By remembering “excellence, not perfection”, and by making sure to take care of myself! Sometimes we goddesses get so caught up in doing our best work and helping other people that we forget to take care of ourselves; but if we don’t take care of ourselves first, we can’t help anyone else because we end up so stressed out & burned out.

What challenges have you had along the way and overcome them?

Almost two years ago now, we picked up and moved from a small town in rural southwestern Missouri to Austin, Texas. It was pretty rough at first and we had quite the bumpy road with our first landlady (the house was a nightmare! The stories I could tell you...), but we persevered through a lot of tough times, and I’m really glad we decided to stick it out even when things seemed pretty bleak. Austin is a much better fit for both of us, our goals, and our energy than the town we moved from.

Favourite Quote/Saying

I have to pick just one?! One of my definite favourites is “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.”, from Thoreau. And another one, since it ties back into the excellence vs perfection thing – “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” – Aristotle.

Tips/suggestions you would like to say to the Goddess’s reading this

I said it once but I’ll say it again: take care of yourself first, make sure that you’re putting time and energy back into you before you go giving it away to everyone else. And don’t get caught up in the trap of perfectionism!
